31 December 2016

It's December 31st, the very last day of 2016. Tomorrow we'll be into a new month and a brand new year. Sometimes it feels like it was only yesterday when I was sitting on an old couch at a friends New Years Eve house party in 1999, just waiting for the clock to strike 12 and secretly pretending not to be nervous about all the computers shutting down, or worse, all of us falling off the face of the planet. Thankfully 2017 doesn't have all that Y2K and Millennium stuff surrounding it, because even 17 years later I could guarantee you that I'd still be secretly pretending not to be nervous about falling off the face of the planet again. Thanks anxiety for that.

I feel like every time I come here I end up talking about time, and how fast it's going, and what a scary feeling that is. And here I am again today, doing the exact same thing. I've heard so many people say though, "the older you get, the faster time goes", and now at 31 I'm starting to realize there's actually some truth to what everyone has been telling me all these years.

Along with that, I've also realized more than ever just how precious that time is. Maybe it's anxiety (thanks again, anxiety!), or maybe it's because the older you get the wiser you become but, either way, it's true. Every year, every month, and every day. It's all so very precious.

It's funny how with the turn of just one calendar page you find yourself asking questions while reflecting back on your previous year. Was 2016 good to you? Were there any major events that happened? What were the good things? And the not so good things? Were there things you wish you could have done differently? Or were there things you thought about making happen this time last year that actually happened?

Over the last few days I've thought a lot about 2016. It was definitely a quieter year, but from the roller coaster year that was 2015, I guess quiet isn't such a bad thing after all. We finally made wedding plans, my sister and I took my mom on a trip to San Francisco for her 60th birthday, I started a new job, my sister became pregnant on baby #3, and I started writing here again in the fall after a two year hiatus.

Thank you 2016 for the milestones, the strength and courage, the utmost appreciation, the laughter, the few tears, the best family and love, the good friends, the fun and exciting adventures, and so, so, soooo much more!

They say, "you should only look back to see how far you've come", so I hope if you're looking back too today at 2016 you can see how far you have come, no matter what this year had in store for you.

Have a fun New Years Eve!

Until next time.

24 December 2016

The house is dark, the tree lights are on, and Todd is now sleeping on the couch while 'How The Grinch Stole Christmas' is on in the background. It feels so cozy here, just like Christmas Eve always does! Since we have plans in a couple of hours to head out to his brothers for a little get together, I decided to pour myself a cup of coffee and come here, instead of the only other option - falling asleep myself!!

We were extremely late getting home from a friends house last night celebrating Tibb's Eve. Have you heard of that before? In short, it's a Newfoundland tradition that involves having a few drinks on December 23rd to celebrate the start of the Christmas season.

"The tradition of Tibb's Eve originates on the South Coast of Newfoundland after World War 11. At the time, small outport communities were very religious and observed the Advent period as strictly and soberly as they did Lent. Tibb's Eve was a loosening of the restraint. So, it became a tradition for men to go to each others' houses the night before Christmas Eve, where they could "sample" all the goodies planned for Christmas. Lighthearted and humorous, it was a way to extend the season and tip a glass with your neighbours".

Although we had a slower (and harder) start to the day, we pulled through and went out for breakfast, played with Charley at the park for a bit, and squeezed in a couple of Christmas movies. Since Todd only got home on Wednesday after being gone for 3 weeks, it was so nice to spend the full day together, just the two of us, especially before all the family and friend gatherings begin!

This Christmas will be a little different for us this year. My parents are away with my sister and her family in Toronto, and normally we would always spend it together...all 8 of us! But despite missing my family, I'm still extremely looking forward to me and Todd having our own little Christmas morning together.

The treats are made, all the presents are wrapped (quite in advance actually...go me!!!), and now it's time to just sit back and relax and enjoy the holidays with family and friends because that's what it's all about - spending time with loved ones!

Don't forget to indulge in some extra treats and give those around you extra, extra love. I can definitely assure you those two things will not be too difficult for me to do over the next few days. I'm already prepared to have the stretchiest pants I own on repeat!! Tis the season, right?  And January 1st along with New Year's resolutions are also just right around the corner, right?  Right!!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I truly hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

Until next time.

16 December 2016

Happy Friday, everyone! It feels like it's been a long time since I've been around here so I figured I'd stop in today to say hi and to share a few updates! So, first of all, hello there! How's December treating you so far? I seriously can't get over how fast these last couple of weeks have gone. I guess that's what happens though during the busiest month of the year!  Time is flying by and before we know it, Christmas will be over and we'll be into 2017. Gasp!!

Before I go too far off into the future though, let's back up a bit shall we?

- I was recently in Alberta again for a week of work. The days were long and the temperatures were horrible, but it was a lot of fun and a great experience. Our company took us out for a Christmas dinner while we were there and it was great getting to hang out with the new people I've met outside of work. What wasn't so great though was having a little too much to drink that night and getting up at 5AM to work a 10 hour day, only then to go straight to the airport and wait 6 hours for my 1AM overnight flight. Boy, that was rough, and obviously not the smartest decision I've ever made in my life. Luckily my friend who lives close to the airport (and who I don't get to see often), came and picked me up for dinner, which helped pass away some time for my sleepy self!

- With a connecting flight in Toronto, a stop into the MAC store was a must. Since we don't have one here, I can never not pass through without doing a little airport shopping! And, since I'm always on the hunt to find the perfect nude lipstick, I picked up the colour Creme D'Nude to add to my collection.

- Have you watched the new Gilmore Girls episodes? I tried to spread out watching them but, before I knew it, the weekend that they were released was over and so were the episodes. As much as I loved the revival, I was also a little disappointed. I mean, the ending?! I read after that apparently that was how the creator always intended the show to originally end. But still. I also could have done without the couple of musicals that they through in there, which seemed to last forever. I also didn't love the whole Rory and Logan affair dynamic thing going on. But, I am sad to see the show officially be all over.

- Speaking of TV, guess what starts up again in just a few short weeks? The Bachelor!! One of my favourite parts about the show is not only watching, but getting online after and reading peoples thoughts about the latest episode. Since it's become a little obsession of mine, I'm thinking about writing weekly posts of my own. We shall see. I still don't want to get too carried away over here with this blog of mine!

- The weather this week has been absolutely horrible. It's been snowing (a lot) every single day. You go to bed, you wake up, and your driveway is full. You get off work, you come home, and your driveway is full. It's been a vicious cycle! The positive? It looks like we'll have a white Christmas. Oh, and it sure is beautiful to look at.

- Despite the weather, I've been getting outside on my lunch break and walking; something I've never done before. My new office is right next to a beautiful park and I've been loving getting up from my desk, stretching my legs and breathing in the rigid cold fresh air!!

- Todd gets home from work in a few days and I can't wait to do some fun Christmas things together. We already have a few things in mind that we want to do, starting with making Christmas slush. My family has been making this during the holidays for as long as I can remember, and since my family will be away this year, myself and Todd will be keeping the tradition alive!

I think that's it for the week. I'm off to watch another Christmas movie. Have a great weekend!

Until next time.

08 December 2016

I have another round of gift ideas coming your way today. Are you sick of these yet?

Well, if you've decided to stick around (oh hey there!) and you still need some ideas for finding cute and affordable gifts for someone in your life, then I'm hoping I can help you with that!

I love looking for creative gifts and since I often spend hours browsing online trying to find those great items for my own shopping lists, I figured why not share some of those ideas here! As much as I love doing these though, I've been realizing I've been pretty much just shopping for me, and me only! Anything that I love and would want for myself, after I finish lusting over it, I immediately add it to the gift guide. Let's hope you guys like the same stuff as I do!! Luckily I've had some self control along the way and haven't purchased any of these items for myself yet. But, that's not to say that a certain someone (ahem, Todd) needs to have that same self control when shopping for another certain someone! ;)

Affordable Gift Ideas

3. Tuque
6. Fresh Sugar Lip Set (new one!)

Do you have a go-to store when shopping for gifts? Mine would probably be Chapters. I could spend hours browsing through their store or online. They have so many cute and unique gifts that are perfect for any person or occasion! I think I have 5 items linked above that are all from Chapters!

Happy shopping, everyone!

Until next time.

07 December 2016

I can't believe we're into the month of December already you guys!

Does anyone else love the time leading up to Christmas just as much, if not more, than Christmas? I just love all the fun things that come along with the holiday season. The feeling that the month of December brings is really like no other.

The lights, the window displays, the family get togethers, the red cups at Starbucks, the Christmas parties, the music, the glittery clothes, the food, the movies...ahhhh, the movies! I have watched more Christmas movies over the last couple of weeks than I think I have in all of my 31 years of life combined! And I'm not talking about your classic Christmas movies. Nope, I'm talking about the cheesy Hallmark ones. Oh how I love those Hallmark movies!

This weekend officially kick started the Christmas festivities. Saturday night I went out for dinner and drinks with some friends, and it was the perfect way to start the season of the red lip! Since I'm more of a natural lipstick lover, this is the month I try and force myself to take any red lipsticks I own out of hibernating, at least for a few weeks.

Since my parents are spending Christmas at my sister's in Toronto this year, we had to have our family get together (on my mom's side) on Sunday. My mom and aunt put together a trivia game with questions about all of our family members and we had so much fun taking turns hearing everyone's answers. It was such a great day spending it together.

So much has changed with our family over the last few years. We've not only gained some family members, but have also lost some too. This family of mine is, hands down, the strongest group of people I know, and each and every one of them means so much to me.

Last week also came with our first official snow fall. Now while I don't normally love to see snow, I do welcome it with open arms during the month of December. I think we can all agree it really adds to the feeling of the season!! Nothing beats snuggling underneath warm blankets while your Christmas tree lights are on and the snow is falling so pretty outside.

I have a feeling that this is going to be a pretty great month!

What are some of your favourite things about the holiday season?

Until next time.

01 December 2016

They're here, they're here! All of the Sephora items that I ordered during the VIB Rouge sale are finally here!

They've actually been sitting in my bedroom untouched for a couple of weeks now, just waiting for me to stop being so lazy to snap a picture of them, but with a Sephora haul like this one, I figured a dramatic statement to start was definitely the better way to go.

Then again, I could have just started with this picture of all the stacked boxes to really make a statement. I still haven't quite decided if I should be impressed or ashamed that I'm the one responsible for this picture. The jury is still out on that one.

Isn't it the best feeling though when you open your mailbox to finally see those packages that you've been dying to get waiting for since you placed your online order? It is, isn't it? But do you know what can cause that feeling to suddenly go down the toilet in a matter of 2.5 seconds? Having your significant other check the mail before you do. Yup, that'll do it!

I feel like I should have written a post called "Tips for Placing a Huge Online Makeup Order". It would have been a pretty short post considering the only tip would be this - For the love of god, make sure you hide any and all mail keys from your partner, stalk your mailman from your order date to the time it gets delivered, then hide your packages in the trunk of your car while you're brainstorming a strategy to sneak them in your house. Super simple, but simple effective!

But I kid. It wasn't that bad, I only got a few "are you crazy?" looks from Todd. And I don't blame him 'cause I asked myself that same question a few times when I came home and saw those boxes towering over sitting on our counter. It was only until l I ripped them all open that I realized it wasn't as bad as it looked. Maybe the buyers high and denial had kicked in. Thankfully the remorse part never did! ;)

Here's a list of the products:

I'm not going to go into much detail about them because, besides for a few, the majority are ones I've never tried before (you can read my earlier post about my top Sephora picks). The Urban Decay spray and Makeup Forever HD powder were both picked up on a whim, so I opted for the travel sizes with those to be on the safe side. I was talked into the YSL BB cream from the girl working at Sephora (fingers are crossed on that one!). The Tarte blush in exposed was recommended by a friend as the perfect everyday blush, and the Bite Beauty mini lipstick kit caught my eye from Carly's post.

So now that I've taken pictures and talked about them, I guess the next thing would be to decide which ones I'm going to start using right away and which ones I'm giving Todd to put in my stocking for Christmas, because that was obviously the first thing that came out of my mouth when he gave me those crazy stares!  I'd like to think I'm really good at justifying things!!

Until next time.

27 November 2016

For all the years Todd and I have been out in the "real world" working, we have never once been on the same schedule. Not once. We were pretty close a few years back but, even then, Todd had to leave so early in the mornings for work I was still in bed dreaming (and more than likely snoring) away and then the poor thing wouldn't stroll home in the evenings until an hour or two after me.

But last week we had a chance to not only finally be on the same work schedule, but to actually go to work together....in the same office!!

A few weeks ago I talked about how I started a new job. What I didn't mention was that it was actually for the same company Todd has been working with for the last 6 years, just in a different location. He's never once had to work from my office in all of those years, so I couldn't believe that not only 3 weeks into my new job, Todd would be joining me for a full week!

You could say that knowing we'd be braving the Monday morning storm together made last Sunday evening a lot more bearable than normal ones. We packed our lunches together and I watched Todd be all cute while he picked out his "business casual" outfit (since jeans is his normal attire).

6 o'clock the next morning, both of our alarms went off and we jumped up excited to start the day together. It was a fun and smooth sailing Monday morning. And not only did I make him be the driver, I also made him take selfies with me when we parked. Because we all know the saying- if you don't take a picture of what you're doing, did it ever really happen? My thoughts exactly!

And then off we went....

Our offices were on separate floors and that first day we never visited each other once. I think we were both trying to keep our distance because subconsciously we didn't want to be labelled as the office couple. But then lunch time came around and I'm pretty sure it became obvious when people saw us sitting all by ourselves at a table (remember I'm still a newbie!), hauling out the exact same items from our lunch bags: an egg wrap, a yogurt, a small baggie of carrots and 2 clementines each. We should have just went ahead and written the word 'couple' on our foreheads.

5:30 came, we met each other near the entrance and walked to our car together. We talked on the way home about our day and how fun it was to be going home the same time. We stopped into my parents for dinner and then headed home. Beat from a long day, we watched some tv and crawled into bed at the wild time of 9 o'clock.

And then it seemed the excitement of working together slowly started to dwindle a little day by day. The snooze button returned to being pushed it's normal amount of times and the saying, "I can't wait to sleep in" was mumbled more and more.

Come Thursday morning we were arguing about who was going to make lunches since we started to slack off on the night before work prep!

"Can you get our stuff ready?" Todd asked.

"But I'm not nearly close to being ready" I shouted out to him from the other bathroom.

And with that I heard feet thumping down the hall towards the kitchen, deliberately loud enough to be heard and to make a statement.

But we survived our week (and probably only week) working together. It was fun and, even with the newness wearing off a bit, I wish we could do it more often. But, it's Sunday evening again and with Todd having the week off and me driving to work in the morning myself, things are back to normal. Well, somewhat...little does Todd know I'll be bugging him to make my lunch in the morning since it doesn't look like I'm going to be making it before bed! :)

Have a great week, friends! Friday will be here before we know it!

Until next time.

24 November 2016

It's so hard to believe the most wonderful time of the year is just right around the corner. We are exactly four weeks away from Christmas Eve friends! While I normally wait until the first day of December to allow myself to get into full Christmas mode, I'm hoping that by then I'll at least have the majority of my shopping done. Fingers are staying crossed on that one.

I love giving gifts and searching for things that I hope people will love! I'm a firm believer that a gift should be less about the price tag, and more about showing the person that you really thought about them.

And your best friend is one person in your life that deserves some extra thought put into their gift. However, if you've been wracking your brain trying to find something that your friend may need or truly enjoy and still coming up short, I've put together some BFF certified ideas to try and help!

Gift Guide for Your Bestie

One thing I love about this time of the year is the million great gift ideas floating around out in the blog world. I mean, who doesn't love getting some help in the shopping department? Especially when you don't have to move from your couch to do so!

I hope you enjoy them too because I'm hoping to share more in the next week or two!

Until next time.

22 November 2016

It all started a few months ago on a lonely and boring night. The addiction that is.

I was at work, passing away time on the internet (and the award for the best employee goes to...), when I stumbled across a post talking about how Netflix was bringing back the show Gilmore Girls, calling it the revival: a year in the life.

I remembered this show from back when I was in high school, but I'm sure I could have counted the number of episodes I actually watched on one hand alone. I remember knowing it was about a mother and daughter and that a lot of talking was involved, but that was about it.

Well, later that evening when I got home from work and finished my normal routine, I sat down on the couch and thought about what I was going to watch for the next hour or two before it was time to go to bed. I was in such a total TV funk. There was not one thing I was interested in, and that was becoming a problem because when you're by yourself at 8 o'clock in the night, there's not a whole lot more that you want to do other than to relax and watch some light hearted TV. But thinking back to earlier that day, I flicked through Netflix and there it was....all 7 seasons of the Gilmore Girls.

A full show of something I had never watched before. And 7 seasons at that.

I was praying that this was a show I could be interested in because with 150+ episodes to go, I knew my TV funk would officially be over. So I pressed play. And then play again. And then "Yes, I'm still watching" to Netflix's reminder that you've been watching something for far too long, until a couple of weeks ago when I finished the entire series. And now I'm back to pressing play again on some of my favourite older episodes.

They say there will never be a show quite like it, and I have to agree, partly because I only understood about three quarters of what everyone was saying the entire time. But with witty, fun personalities and an ungodly love of coffee, I was instantly drawn in.

"Do you like coffee? Only with my oxygen!"

"I need coffee, whatever form you got it, I haven't had it all day. I'll drink it, shoot it, eat it, snort it, whatever form it's in."

It's a show that makes you feel both smart and dumb, all at the same time. Smart because you're watching something with so many references and big words, and dumb because you have absolutely no idea what those references and big words are. It's a show with a theme song that you can't hear without singing along. It's one that makes you want to be a part of the Gilmore clan and take part in the drama filled Friday night dinners. One that makes you long for a fast metabolism so you can binge on pop tarts, pizza, Chinese food from Al's Pancake World and, of course, endless breakfasts and dinners at Luke's Diner. Where Stars Hallow is a place you want to live because it's filled with endless amounts of quirky neighbours and a Kirk who is employed at every place you go.

But through the abnormally fast dialect, in the end, it's all about the love and friendship between a mother and a daughter, friends, parents, neighbours and a community. It's about sitting down over a good cup of coffee and having good conversations (and food) with those you enjoy being around.

And just when my TV funk was slowly starting to creep back, come Friday, the super fast talkers Lorelai and Rory, along with all of our favourite characters, are back for the start of a four part episode. Until then, I'll be counting down the hours while watching reruns and making sure I don't get low on my stash of Keurig cups sitting in my cupboard.

"Yeah, that's me! I'm fast. I'm the perfect storm of caffeine and genetics."

Will you be watching? If so, what are some things you're hoping to see?

Is team Dean vs. team Jess still lingering or is Logan or a new guy in the picture? What's happened with Luke and Lorelai? Or the relationship between Lorelai and her parents? So many questions and hopefully we'll find out soon!

Take a peak at the trailer if you need a little something to get you through to Friday.

Until next time.

15 November 2016

Fun fact about me: I don't like wearing makeup on the weekends if I don't have to. I love going au-natural whenever I can - it makes me feel like my skin is detoxing! So normally if I don't have anything planned, besides running some errands, I always take that opportunity to go make-up free and then pray I don't run into anyone I know. But, as we all know, that's usually when all those people you haven't seen in years and years decides to come out of hiding.

Yesterday was different, though. I woke up, ate my breakfast, drank two cups of coffee and watched some TV while trying to come back to life, and then showered. It was the exact same as any plan-free Sunday morning. However, apparently I was in the mood to play beauty parlour because, this time, I didn't just stop at moisturizer.

It was fun using more make-up than I normally would during the weekdays at work (while still keeping it on the natural side). It was also fun not being rushed and being able to take my time picking out exactly the products I wanted to try; some were old faithfuls and others were ones I brought back to life for the day.

Once I was finished and just standing there with no where to go, I decided a FOTD post (that's 'face of the day', mom) was in order so all of my efforts wouldn't be a total waste. Plus, if you're a makeup junkie like myself, it's always fun to see what others like to slather all over their face, right?

So taaaa-da!

The quality of this picture isn't the greatest because it was taken on my phone. I was way too lazy to break out any other camera, but I'm realizing that for a make-up shot like this, that wasn't the smartest move! It looked great on my phone, but what I didn't realize was that it would be blown up to like 4 times the normal size. Again, not the smartest move! Also, please ignore my lazy eye! You totally just went back to look for it then, didn't you?!

My parents ended up inviting me over for dinner Sunday night, along with my aunt and cousins, so I was quite happy after all to be rocking more than moisturizer!!

I really wish I had taken better pictures because this look turned out really nice, and it kind of defeats the purpose of doing a post like this if no one can see how it actually looks. Oh well, I guess I'll know better for next time. Also, feel free to ask me about any of the products I mentioned!

Until next time.

11 November 2016

No matter where you in the live in the world, I think we can all agree this week was an interesting one, to say the least. Very, very interesting. Even after a few days of processing everything, that's still the only word I can come up with right now. So let's move on, shall we?

Since it's been a couple of weeks since I've last did a post like this, I figured one was in order for today. I always love these type of posts because they're such a quick and easy way to share some updates and to just throw out a whole pile of information, albeit random information. Hopefully that's your thing too!

  • I've conquered 4 days at my new job and so far, so good great! My work location is made up of multiple buildings with tunnel systems, a gym, and even a coffee shop (definitely brings me back to my university campus days---ah the memories!), which is super nice but a little overwhelming. Luckily my office is only three feet away from a coffee machine and, as we all know, that's the only thing that really matters. I've already got an invitation to their (I guess now, our) Christmas party next month, so I'm looking forward to that and to hopefully meeting some new friends before that so I don't end up sitting in a corner all by myself for the entire evening. #newpersonproblems

  • I found out in the middle of the week that I'll be travelling next week actually for a few days for my new job and I can't wait. I'm sure it sounds a hell of a lot more glamorous than it actually will be (especially with long flights and long working days), but I'm still super excited for the experience.

  • A few weeks ago Charley cut her paw open pretty bad, which then got infected, which then resulted in a visit to the vet, a cone and three lots of medication, which then started to heal, which then got worse again when her dumb mother (yes, that would be me!) thought she was okay enough to play outside and caught her digging for treasure, which resulted in her paw splitting open and bleeding....again. But, I think she's finally almost all better, thank god! It's been a hard few weeks living with an active dog who's been left alone all day and who can't get out for a walk in the evenings. You could say we were both starting to go a little insane!!!

  • A week ago the Chicago Cubs broke their 100+ years streak and won the World Series. Although I'm not much of a baseball fan, the Cubs have held a special place in my heart for the last few years since watching them at my one and only baseball game experience at Wrigley Field. I remember going to that game like it was yesterday, and I remember the craziness surrounding the streets outside Wrigley Field, so I can only imagine what it was like in Chicago after the win. Go Cubs!!

  • I've been trying to start my Christmas shopping early, and I officially have one gift sitting in our office waiting to be wrapped. I know I say that every year and every year I say I actually mean it, but this year I really, really do (well, hopefully!!!). The closer it gets to Christmas, not only is it crazier shopping madness but it's also the time when I want to be doing nothing but fun Christmas activities like going for drives and looking at Christmas lights or curling up on the couch watching Christmas movies.

  • I guess I can't end this without saying something (other than the word, interesting) about what happened this week-- Donald Trump getting elected to become President of the United States. Although I'm Canadian, and although I'm probably not as educated on the topic as I should be, I've still been completely wrapped up in this election, as I'm sure everyone around the world has been. The amount of news articles, blog posts, pictures, memes and many, many discussions and opinions on various forms of social media that I've read this week has been overwhelming and I know it was/been/is a crazy/confusing time for a lot of people in the US. I guess the best, and only thing, I can say right now is that there are so many people out there who truly want the best for America, whatever that may be. Oh, and I still can't believe DONALD TRUMP is the president. I don't think that sentence will never not sound normal to any of us.

And with all of that said, regardless of what is going on wherever you may be, take some time out of your day to think about all of the good things in your life right now. Since today is Remembrance Day here in Canada, I'm remembering, and especially thankful for, all of those who have fought for us and our country, both past and present. Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Until next time.

Bridal Party Gifts

As soon as our wedding date was set and the venue was booked, the next thing we immediately started talking about was our bridal party.  Todd and I knew exactly who we each wanted to ask, and it turned out great because we both ended up with a lucky number of 4. I've heard choosing a bridal party can be one of the harder decisions when it comes to planning (I'm assuming the guest list and seating chart is right at the top of that list--uggh, I totally forgot I have the dreaded seating chart to deal with in the near future), but we were fortunate enough that this wasn't such a difficult one for us.

There were definitely people we would have loved to include, but it ultimately came down to four of our best/ closest/ can't imagine not having them in our lives friends.

When we talked about how we were going to ask them, I knew I wanted to do a little something more creative than asking them over the phone or sending them a text message. I thought about doing up gift baskets or buying cute little personalized gifts, but I quickly had to scrap that idea when I started to do the math on how much that would cost for 8 people.

After a little searching on Etsy, I stumbled across the most adorable shop InklingsPaperie who sell the cutest cards ever. The moment I laid my eyes on them I knew it was the perfect way to ask our bridal party. And plus, it gave us a fun way to tell them how much they mean to us. And since Todd is the type who finds it hard to have heartfelt conversations, he was totally on board with the idea of writing what he wanted to say.

We had so much fun handing these out to our friends and watching them scratch their cards! I think we enjoyed it even more than the people scratching them. One of the guys Todd gave the card to somehow read his card out loud (and so serious/ confused) as, "Dude, shut up!".  I don't think we laughed so hard before. Maybe you had to be there!

We have a lot of great people in our lives and getting to celebrate our wedding with all the people we love is something we can not wait for.

Eeeek, if I haven't said it a million times already (you know it's only going to get sooooo much worse though, right?), I'm so excited about all the wedding festivities coming up in the next year!

PS: If you're ever on the hunt for cute personalized gifts/ supplies, go check out the Etsy shop- they have everything! I'm completely hooked!

Until next time.

06 November 2016

It's Sunday evening and, just as I anticipated, the nerves have officially kicked in. The to-do list that I created for myself on Friday is complete, and the only thing that's left for me to do now is to relax and try and get a good nights sleep tonight. Ha, good luck with that!

My outfit for tomorrow is already picked out, my nails are painted, my lunch is packed and ready to go, and my purse is nice and organized with all the forms that I need to provide . My house is clean and tidy, the dogs fur is removed from my car, all the laundry has been done and put away, and my groceries have been bought for the week ahead. Everything that needs to be done so I can feel great going into the new work week has officially been done.

But let's back up a moment shall we?

It was 10 o'clock last Friday morning when I walked into my bosses office to let her know that I was going to have to leave work a little early that day, when she slowly raised her head from her computer and started to interrupt my ramblings that usually occur whenever I try and ask for any time off. By the look on her face, I knew right then and there what was happening in that exact moment - I was getting laid off. And sure enough, I was right.

After 5 years, my day to day routine as I knew it was now over.

I knew this day was coming, though. It wasn't a secret and, in fact, I thought it was going to be coming even earlier than it actually did.  For the last couple of months I have been completely on edge at work, just waiting for the dreaded phone call or waiting to see our Human Resources manager walk into my office. It's been nothing but a (long) waiting game.

You see, when I first got hired I was guaranteed a year. That's it. Since it was project work, we all knew there would be an end date. With the luck of some big and small extensions though, I never dreamed that 5 years later I would be fortunate enough to be left standing for as long as what I was. I've watched our group go from big to small, with even having to relocate offices due to our shrinking size over the years.

So, you could say it was no surprise that I knew my time was coming.

But it's funny because the news still hit me like a ton of bricks. It makes no sense but preparing for that moment over the last few months didn't seem to prepare me at all. My heart sank in my chest, I could feel my eyes begin to fill up, and my voice even started to crack as I began to speak.

I guess as much as I was preparing myself for the inevitable, it's still hard to let go of something you've been doing for so long. I loved my job (obviously that didn't mean I didn't have my fair share of complaints), and it was so very good to me during those years. I worked with some incredible people from all over the world, I was challenged at times, and I was introduced to a lot of things that I had never experienced before.

I remember the first year of my job like it was yesterday. I worked more hours than I could imagine but I truly enjoyed it. I felt part of something that seemed so big; something completely different than I was used to.

But with that said, I knew my time was up mentally too. As much as I loved my job, knowing it was ending made it very difficult every day to feel motivated and to feel valued. I was doing the same things that I'd been doing for years, and I knew a change was definitely needed. What's that saying again? If you're not moving forward, you're falling backwards?

I had no idea though a different change was coming so soon.

When my termination form was signed and all the tears/hugs were given, it was then that I was told by my boss that a position on another project with a different company was available if I were interested, but I had to let her know right away as it would be starting very soon. My mind was swirling and my emotions were all over the place. I barely understood one word she was telling me.

Up until that point, I had been preparing myself to use the extra time to figure out exactly what I wanted to do. Although I've been out of school and working for years, I still continue to ask myself that question often. Sometimes I'd even catch myself drifting off into la la land, thinking about all the possibilities that were out there. And as unknowing as it was, it was actually a little exciting to know that I was being given some time towards making a decision.

But before I knew it, I was saying yes to the new job opportunity. I rushed home and got my resume sent off as quickly as I could, and within a few days a contract had come through.

So that's where I am, nervous and all ready to start a new job tomorrow morning. Like my previous one, it's still project work meaning that it has an end date. I'm nervous but excited. And I know that's completely normal. Change can be a little scary. But I know it can also be a great thing.

I'm hoping this change will give me some motivation that has seemed to dwindle over the last few months, both at and outside of work. I'm excited for a new routine and meeting new people. I'm also looking forward to better lunches because I don't think I can get away with shoving a can of beans and a can opener in my lunch bag anymore.....well, at least until I get comfortable enough there! :)

Well, I'm off to try and finish the last thing on my list-- go to bed early!  Wish me luck!

Until next time.

04 November 2016

Well, the day is finally here! It's the day that many of us I'm sure have been patiently (aka. not so patiently) waiting for. It's the start of Sephora's VIB sale. For those who are VIB Rouge members (insert the hand raised emoji or, better yet, the embarrassed face emojis because that means we've all spent so much money on freaking makeup to get here), we get an extra 20% off all purchases from now until Monday (insert the hand clap and the bottle of champagne emojis).

If you're anything like me, I'm sure you've been holding off on buying anything you need (or at least trying to) from Sephora over the last few months in anticipation of this sale. Not only do I use this sale to stock up on my favourites for the year, but I also use it as a way of justifying some new purchases that are a little less on the "need" side, and totally more towards the "gimme all the shiny new items" side.  It's also the perfect time to stock up on some items that would make great Christmas gifts.

Since I'm always really curious as to what goodies other people are buying during this sale, I figured I would share some of the things that's been on my radar lately.

First up is my go-to list. These are items that I continue to purchase often and they continue to be staples in my everyday routine. It seems no other products can replace these (and if they happen to, it's usually only temporary). You can be sure all of these will be added to my shopping cart today!

Sephora Must Haves

Next up are the items that I've been lusting over for quite some time now, although I'm still not entirely sure yet which ones will be coming home with me over the next few days. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Sephora- Makeup

Sephora- Skin Care

Stay tuned over the next few weeks so I can show you what I bought!  I'm so excited!!!  Oh, and Todd if you're reading this, just remember that I love you and that it would be in both of our best interests if you do not check back!!!

Let me know if you're taking part in the sale and what your picks are. Happy shopping my VIB friends!

Until next time.

Too Faced

Ahhhh, the Too Faced melted lipsticks! The lipsticks that I've went back and forth between loving and hating over the last year. Have you ever had a similar experience with a makeup product? It's a strange thing, it really is. I mean, how can you go from can't stop looking at yourself in the mirror because you're so amazed by how great a product is, to asking yourself a million times why you ever purchased that same product in the first place?

I own 7 lipsticks in total (5 original and 2 metal), and they're all smaller versions of the original sized ones. These were all included in a couple of Too Faced gift sets I bought last year during Sephora's VIB sale. However, they were the main reason why I took the plunge on those gift sets in the first place. I had heard lots of good things about them, and I was really excited to try them for myself.

I'll try my best to summarize my feelings on both sides of the spectrum, so if you happen to be wondering whether you should purchase these yourself, maybe some of these points will help tip you to one side or the other. Although if I'm being completely honest, I think I often fall below the neutral line more times than I go above it.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipsticks

What to know:
From their website: "Get the staying power of a stain, the intense colour of a liquid lipstick and the high shine of a gloss in one long-wear formula. Using exclusive technology to keep cauldrons of molten lipsticks liquid and creamy, Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick comfortably coats lips in bursts of intense, high-impact, super rich, saturated colour that lasts for hours".

My thoughts:
- Very pigmented, and therefore not subtle at all (they're definitely more "in your face" colours).
- The colours of the tubes do not match great to the actual colour of the product.
- Non-sticky but a little drying (stay away if you have dry lips!).
- Hard to get off (you're screwed if you go outside the lines), but yet fades quicker than expected.
- The lighter shades Nude & Chihuahua are ones that I would normally gravitate towards, but they seem to look more brown/orange on me and not flattering at all.
- The metal ones have a metallic finish and they feel lighter than the original ones.
- Goes on streaky when applying right from the tube.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Lipsticks

So what is it exactly that I do like about this product? Well, they have a great matte-like finish without looking cakey, and they do last longer than any lipsticks I own (definitely not all day, but longer than your normal lipsticks). And when I am in the mood to be a little more daring with my lip colour, I will usually reach for these as they are beautiful colours.

To help with the dryness and the application, I find applying a small amount of coconut oil to my lips first works wonders! I also find that the lipsticks don't look as bold (and as streaky) if you blot your lips with a tissue first and then apply a lip gross right after.

I took some pictures of myself wearing the 7 different colours to give you an idea. I will say that the colours look a lot nicer on me in these pictures than they do in person and I think that's because the colours don't look half as pigmented (pictures have a funny way of making makeup look much less noticeable). However, I did not edit any of those photos so you could get the best idea of how they look on me.

Colours are shown in the same order as they're listed above.

Favourite everyday lipstick: Metallic Peony
Favourite bright/summer lipstick: Peony
Favourite darker lipstick: Fig
Least favourite lipstick: Berry

Overall I think these are really great if you're not afraid of wearing colour. However, if you're like me and tend to prefer more subtle ("my lips but better") colours, then I think there's better options out there.

Until next time.

31 October 2016

For someone who hasn't dressed up in a Halloween costume in over 8 years, you'd swear I hated Halloween. But I actually really like Halloween, I do. There just never seemed to be any big plans for it over those years, and I guess I didn't really try very hard to do something myself. This year, however, I was determined that I would put my 8 year streak to a halt and dress up.

I knew my costume had to be inexpensive and easy to put together, but it also had to be a little more creative than "shoving a pair of bunny ears on", as my friend would say. So, with a little searching on Pinterest, the idea of dressing as a mime sounded perfect. And then with two friends on board, the idea of 3 mimes became even more perfect.

Since we already owned black pants and black shoes, the only things that we needed to buy were a black and white striped shirt (I found the perfect one at Joe Fresh), white gloves, black suspenders and a black beret, and white face makeup (all found at Halloween stores). Instead of spending 10 dollars or more each on buying red bandanas, I went to a fabric store and picked up a meter of red fabric and just cut the material in three sections. Easy and a lot cheaper!  I think I'm ready for my sewing machine now!

One of my friends won tickets to Bat Dance; a local dance that takes place every Halloween that's put off by the radio station where the only admittance is by winning tickets. So not only was I excited about actually dressing up this year, but I was also really looking forward to going to this dance on Saturday night since I had never been before.

The girls came over to my house earlier that night and we had a lot of fun doing our makeup and getting ready together. It kind of brought me back to my University days where you'd spend hours getting ready with a friend before you went out at night. Actually, one of the things I'm looking forward to about our wedding (out of the million), is having a few hours just like Saturday night getting ready with my bridesmaids, obviously with a little less makeup going on….that's not quite the look I'm going for on my wedding day!

Our costumes were all identical, but we each did different things for our eyes and our lips (and even our eyebrows)!

We actually had a lot of fun with this costume, and not just while we were putting it together. The entire night we were doing mime actions, even on the dance floor! Although people would catch us talking to one another and come up to us and say that we weren't very quiet for mimes! #Typical

We all thought our costumes turned out great, but we all agreed that what really made the difference was having three mimes together. We definitely stood out!

A picture from the end of the night at Bat Dance.

Happy Halloween, everyone! Is it bad that I'm already thinking about ideas for next years costume!?

Until next time.
