MIME HALLOWEEN COSTUME

For someone who hasn't dressed up in a Halloween costume in over 8 years, you'd swear I hated Halloween. But I actually really like Halloween, I do. There just never seemed to be any big plans for it over those years, and I guess I didn't really try very hard to do something myself. This year, however, I was determined that I would put my 8 year streak to a halt and dress up.

I knew my costume had to be inexpensive and easy to put together, but it also had to be a little more creative than "shoving a pair of bunny ears on", as my friend would say. So, with a little searching on Pinterest, the idea of dressing as a mime sounded perfect. And then with two friends on board, the idea of 3 mimes became even more perfect.

Since we already owned black pants and black shoes, the only things that we needed to buy were a black and white striped shirt (I found the perfect one at Joe Fresh), white gloves, black suspenders and a black beret, and white face makeup (all found at Halloween stores). Instead of spending 10 dollars or more each on buying red bandanas, I went to a fabric store and picked up a meter of red fabric and just cut the material in three sections. Easy and a lot cheaper!  I think I'm ready for my sewing machine now!

One of my friends won tickets to Bat Dance; a local dance that takes place every Halloween that's put off by the radio station where the only admittance is by winning tickets. So not only was I excited about actually dressing up this year, but I was also really looking forward to going to this dance on Saturday night since I had never been before.

The girls came over to my house earlier that night and we had a lot of fun doing our makeup and getting ready together. It kind of brought me back to my University days where you'd spend hours getting ready with a friend before you went out at night. Actually, one of the things I'm looking forward to about our wedding (out of the million), is having a few hours just like Saturday night getting ready with my bridesmaids, obviously with a little less makeup going on….that's not quite the look I'm going for on my wedding day!

Our costumes were all identical, but we each did different things for our eyes and our lips (and even our eyebrows)!

We actually had a lot of fun with this costume, and not just while we were putting it together. The entire night we were doing mime actions, even on the dance floor! Although people would catch us talking to one another and come up to us and say that we weren't very quiet for mimes! #Typical

We all thought our costumes turned out great, but we all agreed that what really made the difference was having three mimes together. We definitely stood out!

Happy Halloween, everyone! Is it bad that I'm already thinking about ideas for next years costume!?

Until next time.
